Shanghai Hongqiao International Airports (SHA) debuted its first self-check-in machines at the airport's Terminal 2, allowing passengers to check-in and register their bags by themselves, speeding up the process and making checking in more convenient. Located at check-in booths 17 and 18, in departure area E, passengers flying Juneyao Airlines will be the first to use the new machines.

By scanning their ID cards, passengers can finish the whole check-in process including seat bookings, printing boarding passes, registering baggage and getting the baggage claim checks at the machine. Those familiar with machine can finish the whole process in approximately one minute. The machine is also available for those who have already got their boarding passes and just need to drop off their luggage.

Passengers should ensure that they follow all safety and guidance procedures when packing their luggage and when using the machines.

The airport's security information is available online so that it can remind those who are required to open their bags for security checks before entering the boarding hall.

This is the latest step for SHA in its process of becoming a smart airport. So far, passengers are also able to use self-boarding gates and make mobile payments.

SHA is currently discussing installing more self-check-in machines over the next year, to bring about a more convenient and efficient service.
