Shell has announced that its immersion cooling fluids are the first to be certified by Intel.
In practical terms, this validation will enable the safe deployment of these fluids in data centers around the world.
Shell also claims that these fluids can reduce energy consumption by up to 48% and investment and operating costs by up to 33%.
The International Energy Agency has also pointed out that data centers currently account for 1.5% of global electricity demand and that this figure is expected to double from 415 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2024 to around 945 TWh by 2030, mainly due to the growth of AI.
The energy group points out that immersion cooling, which is more efficient than air cooling, eliminates the need for fans and heavy equipment, reducing the footprint of data centers by up to 80%.
"This move is part of [our] strategy to grow sales of high-value-added premium products while helping [our] customers achieve their emissions reduction goals," Shell said.
