CMMB Vision Holdings Limited announced that it has breakthrough in autonomous-driving technology and filed a new US patent application titled "METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENHANCED CAMERA AND RADAR SENSOR FUSION". The patent filing could potentially revolutionize sensors and artificial intelligent (AI) solutions used in advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous vehicles (AV) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The combined addressable markets for such applications are expected to exceed $200 billion by 2027. Currently, autonomous- driving sensor, also more commonly known as `Sky Eye', relies mainly on camera - laser (LIDAR) enabled driving systems, which however are ineffective in many drivingscenarios such as at night, snow, fog, rain, dust, and image-obstructed pathway, as LIDAR-based sensor relies on the availability of sufficient light to distinguish the light spectrum wavelengths and steer the vehicle's "intelligent driving". The Company has developed a suite of revolutionary machine learning-enabled sensor technologies, the Smart RADAR (MESRA), by fusing camera with low-cost radio-based radar systems to empower autonomous vehicles to safely manoeuvre through night, snow, fog, and dust, and even complete darkness, i.e., all-weather conditions. The application could potentially eliminate the need for the costly LIDAR solutions and render autonomous-driving vehicles much more affordable and safer for everyone. Currently, the Company is in discussion with industry players for potential commercial adoption and rollout. The patent filing is yet another major feat of the Company following a series of patents it has been awarded such as satellite-5G convergence, broadcast-unicast protocol, etc. (for details please refer to announcement of the Company dated 16 December 2019). The patent pool represents a vast treasure of the Company while enabling the Company to compete successfully in the market, hence its commercial worth is invaluable. It attests to the Company's prowess in research and development across aerospace, mobility and connected-cars sectors and its ability to continuously expand commercial applications. It also helps the Company cement an integrated technology and business platform to effectively capture opportunities and maximizing profits for shareholders in the coming autonomous connected-electric driving era.
