I have deep concerns about the climate situation, both as CEO of Skanska and as a citizen. We can do a lot as individuals to improve the situation step by step. However, as a CEO I have the possibility together with all our colleagues to drive positive change and enable decreased carbon emissions on a bigger scale. We need to create transformative solutions that drives our business forward and helps our customers succeed in fulfilling their ambitious sustainability goals. That's how we will succeed - breaking our silos and working collaboratively across the public and private sectors.

Leading the transition to low-carbon construction

Did you know that the built environment accounts for nearly 40% of all energy-related carbon emissions in the world? No other sector has a larger impact on emissions. Skanska takes a leading role in shifting the industry towards green transition and pro-actively tackling the climate crisis. Our goal is to transition to low-carbon construction across all our projects and ultimately reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2045. Actually, we have reduced carbon emissions within in our own operations by 47 percent compared to the base year of 2015. During this period, the Group's revenues have increased. Through hard work together with others it is possible.

From vision to reality at COP26

Now our world leaders gather in Glasgow at COP26. A summit that will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Ambitions and actions, we support. Whilst COP26 offers the world a huge opportunity, the industry needs to be accountable for realising global policy targets. We must continue to make the decisions that impact to turn our vision into reality. This requires solutions that are low in carbon, circular, smart and sustainable. We will participate at COP26 to learn, share our expertise and capture insights to further enhance our delivery. As we move forward, scaling innovative solutions will be critical for a full industry transformation which will lead to net-zero living.
