SLC Agrícola CEO welcomes employees from Terra Santa

Aurélio Pavinato, CEO of SLC Agrícola, hosted last Thursday (July 1) a livestream to welcome the professionals coming from Terra Santa, who are now officially employees of SLC Agrícola, following the transaction between the two companies.

Following a video introducing them to SLC Agrícola, Pavinato began his presentation by welcoming the employees coming from Terra Santa, who are divided among the company's offices in São Paulo, São Paulo and in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, as well as its farms in the latter state, and also welcomed the SLC Agrícola employees working on its farms and in its headquarters. 'Today is a very special day for us at SLC Agrícola and also for everyone from Terra Santa. You're now part of our team, and we want to become even more efficient. There's no use having a star player on a team with no collaboration. We want to build a true star team,' he said.

The CEO of SLC Agrícola recalled the history of the company and the group from its early days in Horizontina, Rio Grande do Sul up to the present day. He cited major milestones over the years, such as the acquisition of the first farm in the Brazilian Cerrado (Pamplona, in 1980), the sale of the machinery production plant to John Deere (1999) and the IPO on the São Paulo Stock Exchange (2007). Pavinato recalled that the proceeds raised from the sale of shares left the company in a stronger position to continue on its growth path, which has averaged around 15% annually since 2012. 'When planning the transaction with Terra Santa, we envisioned a 'win-win' deal that not only opens up a big space for creating value, but also creates opportunities for our employees,' he emphasized.

Pavinato also talked about SLC Agrícola's Big Dream: 'To positively impact future generations and be the world leader in agricultural efficiency and respect for the planet,' dividing the slogan into its three key points. About the positive impacts for future generations, he noted the importance of SLC Agrícola's core values (Integrity, Passion For What You Do, Lasting Relationships and Sustainable Results) and that by putting them into practice, we become role models for other generations.

Regarding efficiency in the agricultural business, SLC Agrícola's CEO noted that the company works with five products - soybean, corn, cotton, seeds and livestock - and that it is constantly pursuing operating efficiency gains, even given the three key variables: weather, prices and foreign exchange rate. 'Obtaining high yields is fundamental. So, we need a really solid base for obtaining high yields and low production costs. And we know that the employees coming from Terra Santa share that same focus,' he said.

Pavinato also added that this level of efficiency is underpinned by highly trained and qualified people, well-defined processes and the pursuit of new technologies. As for respecting the planet, the executive said that SLC Agrícola's goals include playing a lead role in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices.

Near the end, the CEO talked about the company's Strategic Planning, which is based on four pillars: asset-light growth (owning few assets and leasing instead of acquiring new land), efficiency (yields above the industry average), solid financial indicators and leadership in ESG (e.g., certified products and farms complying with certification standards). 'If the company grows and evolves, it creates opportunities for our team. I've seen a lot of employees grow within SLC Agrícola, and I want everyone to have a successful career and to achieve their personal projects,' he said.

In closing, Pavinato highlighted that the expansion projects being launched in 2021 will enable the company to envisage good grow capacity over the coming years. 'You all are joining together with us to build a great project in this promising scenario that lies ahead. We want to always be a bigger, stronger and more sustainable company. Thank you all very much, and I wish each of you success!' he concluded.
