Consulting firm raises forecast for global harvest 2021/22 to 2.292 billion tons
The International Grains Council (IGC) revised upwards its forecast for the world grain harvest in the 2021/22 crop year to 2.292 billion tons. The new forecast is slightly higher than the previous figure, of 2.287 billion tons, and 3% higher than the estimate for the 2020/21 crop year.
Meanwhile, for the 2020/21 crop year, the IGC projects that 2.220 billion tons were harvested worldwide. According to the council, Brazil is responsible for the downward revision by 6 million tons from its previous forecast, given the lower expectation for the country's corn production.
As a result, Brazil will account for slightly more than 10%, since the forecast, according to Conab, is estimating that the country harvested 262.13 tons of grains in 2020/21.
For soybean, the IGC is keeping unchanged its production forecast of 383 million tons, while estimating corn production of 1.192 billion tons.
