SMRT raises more than $2.7 million for needy elderly this year, the largest amount raised in its four-year history

The kind support from those from all walks of life in Singapore during The Silver Tribute Charity

Night, the first-ever TV fundraising show by a Singapore corporation, has helped SMRT raise

$2.72 million for eight voluntary welfare organisations (VWO) supporting more than 8,000 needy elderly and their caregivers.

The show is the climax of the company’s Silver Tribute Fund (STF) activities for the year. The amount raised this year – the STF’s fourth year of fundraising – is the highest since the fund was established in 2006.

Artistes from China, Taiwan and Singapore took to the stage for three hours to entertain more than 600 studio audience, and those watching in their living rooms; while at the same time urging them to call in and pledge their donations to the cause.

The curtains opened with popular local songstress Olivia Ong and local artiste Jesseca Liu –
