Thursday 29thApril 2021

Atkins - a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group - has been recognised by experts for its efforts to work towards gender equality.

The Times Top 50 Employers for Women is the UK's most highly profiled and well-established listing of employers striving for gender equality in the workplace. Run by the charity Business in the Community - The Prince's Responsible Business Network - for more than a decade, the incredibly competitive process identifies companies which make gender equality part of their business strategy and are trying to bring it to life at all levels of the organisation.

Applicants are assessed on a range of areas, including their approach to recruitment, family friendly policies and how they have championed gender equality in the context of the pandemic.

Atkins stood out in terms of its diverse recruitment processes; data monitoring and transparency; support for career progression; and its overarching strategy for improving the diversity of its business and ensuring gender equality.

Richard Robinson, Atkins UK and Europe CEO, said: 'This recognition is incredibly important to us not only as a major employer in the UK but as a design, engineering, and project management consultancy which fully understands the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion.

'While there is some way go to reach gender equality across our industry, I'm proud of the progress we're making and the decisions we've made as a responsible, socially conscious organisation.'

Sendra Sylvester, Atkins UK and Europe ED&I Specialist, said: 'At Atkins we're weaving ED&I into everything we do to create opportunities, remove barriers and lead by example. Having just launched our three-year ED&I strategy - following consultation with our employees - our place on the Times Top 50 list confirms we're heading in the right direction.'

Charlotte Woodworth, Gender Equality Director at Business in the Community, said: 'COVID-19 has shone a light on how far we have to go on gender equality: by having to pick up things like the bulk of extra caring responsibilities, women have been disproportionately affected by lockdown.

'We congratulate the many employers who have maintained their efforts towards gender equality at this time, often introducing innovative policies to support their workforce during this period. This year's application process for The Times Top 50 Employers for Women was the most competitive one we have seen in five years. Employers like Atkins haven't forgotten women at work and they are committed to making gender inequality a thing of the past.'
