SoftBank Reportedly in Talks to Invest in Sharp But Feasibility Unclear

SoftBank Corp. (TSE:9434) is in talks to invest about JPY 100 billion ($684 million) in electronics maker Sharp Corporation (TSE:6753), but the feasibility of the deal remains unclear, Kyodo news agency reported on August 22, 2024. SoftBank's investment plan emerged amid its negotiations to acquire part of Sharp's Sakai plant to build an AI data centre, but the two companies are seen disagreeing over the terms, Kyodo said.
