Sony Group Corp. said Wednesday that its first-quarter net profit rose 9.4% from a year earlier as stronger earnings from its electronics and music businesses offset weaker results from gaming.

The Japanese electronics and entertainment company said that net profit for the quarter ended June rose to 211.83 billion yen ($1.94 billion) from Y193.58 billion a year earlier.

That beat the estimate of Y149.84 billion taken from a FactSet poll of analysts.

Revenue increased 15% to Y2.257 trillion.

Operating profit at the company's games business fell 33% to Y83.26 billion as the pandemic-driven gaming boom subsided. Meanwhile, operating profit at its music business rose 55% to Y55.38 billion, while electronics products swung to a profit of Y71.75 billion from a loss a year earlier.

Sony raised its net-profit forecast for its fiscal year ending March, citing stronger earnings from the music, electronics products and movie businesses. It maintained its revenue projection.

The company expects net profit to drop 32% to Y700.00 billion, up from its previous view of Y660.00 billion. It continues to expect revenue to increase 7.8% to Y9.700 trillion.
