FOLSOM, N.J. (AP) _ South Jersey Industries Inc. (SJI) on Wednesday reported a loss of $38 million in its third quarter.

The Folsom, New Jersey-based company said it had a loss of 31 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, came to 18 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 16 cents per share.

The energy services holding company posted revenue of $608.5 million in the period.
