Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Co., bought a 118-megawatt wind-energy project in Oklahoma, the company said Tuesday.

Southern bought the Glass Sands facility located in Murray County, Okla., from Steelhead Americas. Steelhead is a North American subsidiary of Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems A/S.

Construction of the facility, which will include 28 wind turbines, is underway, and commercial operations are set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2021. The electricity and associated renewable-energy credits that the facility will generate will be sold under a power-purchase agreement with Amazon.com Inc., Southern said.

Glass Sands will be Southern's 15th wind-energy project, the company said.
