Southern Company Gas on Tuesday said it has created two new departments -- Sustainability & Innovation and Renewable Natural Gas -- to "support the company's continued commitment to addressing climate change and reinforce the importance of natural gas in a sustainable energy future."
The Sustainability and Innovation Group will be led by Joanne Mello, who most recently served as chief of staff to Southern Co. Gas President and Chief Executive Kim Greene. In the new role, she will "will oversee the company's sustainability and innovation strategy," Southern Co. Gas said.
The RNG Group will be led by Robin Lanier. "In this role, she will develop and execute an effective strategy for growing Southern Company Gas' RNG capabilities, a critical component in the company's sustainability strategy," Southern Co. Gas said, adding she "will plan, monitor and manage the company's RNG advancements."
Most recently, she was manager of Environmental Regulatory Strategy for Georgia Power, the company said.
Greg Jones, who had been Southern Company Gas' manager of Environmental Affairs, was named as director, Climate & Environmental Policy. Mr. Jones will "lead the company's greenhouse gas emission initiatives and will direct the company's participation in environmental rulemaking, legislation and policy initiatives," the company said.
Southern Company Gas is a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Co.
