Stuttgart, 26 April 2022 - SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, the German subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has been awarded a contract by Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH to maintain and repair the building technology (lot 2) at Stuttgart Airport. The contract will run for a minimum of two years, with the client having the option of extending the contract each year until 2030. The cooperation between SPIE and Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH began in 2008. The current service contract began after a new tender in January 2022.

Comprehensive qualifications play a decisive role

At Stuttgart Airport, SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa is responsible for the servicing of building technology in a total of 35 buildings. This includes interior ventilation systems, heating and air conditioning systems, smoke extraction systems and the associated measurement and control technology. The team headed by Karl-Heinz Stöberl, project manager at the Efficient Facilities operational division of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa also provides facilities engineering services at the airport. "We have been familiar with the building technology at Stuttgart Airport for many years now. This knowledge enables us to service and repair it to the highest possible standard. In addition, the customer appreciates our great expertise in facility engineering, as we create smaller facilities from planning to installation almost exclusively in-house," said Karl-Heinz Stöberl.

"Our extensive technical expertise and tailored solutions play a decisive role here in ensuring that the airport's facilities, including those in the security zones, operate smoothly and without any disruption," Karl-Heinz Stöberl explained. In terms of facility engineering, the SPIE team is currently responsible for a project to separate fire-extinguishing water and drinking water in the security areas of the DCA and LH hangars. The multi-technical service provider previously installed the ventilation systems for the smokers' lounges in three different terminals.

Long-standing cooperation based on trust

SPIE has been looking after the building technology at Stuttgart Airport for over 13 years. "We are delighted and proud of our long-standing partnership with our customer. The trust placed in us has been confirmed yet again with this new contract", concluded Andreas Schmutzler, General Manager of the South Region at SPIE's Efficient Facilities operational division.
