SPIE and Groenendijk PGN Construction optimize cooperation processes at Technical University Delft

Delft/Amsterdam, September 27th, 2017 - SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is currently working on a major renovation of the Technical University building in Delft. Commissioned by Groenendijk PGN Construction, SPIE is responsible for the electrotechnical work, which, due to the short lead time, needs to be perfectly tailored to the many parties involved.

SPIE is responsible for installing the lighting and power installations as well as fire security and camera surveillance. TU Delft is choosing a spraying technique for its ceilings on which the installations are fixed to the bare concrete. A thick acoustic layer is sprayed over them to create the ceiling, which means that the installations after spraying will no longer be accessible. As a consequence, the installation work must be carried out very accurately; there is no room for error. Lean Planning provides the solution: preparation and implementation run almost parallel and all parties are involved in the planning from the outset.

SPIE and Groenendijk had already had experience of similar collaboration with the TU Building 26 project, where the same kinds of installation were requested and a similar type of process carried out. Michel Korstanje, business unit manager at SPIE Nederland's Technical Management Department, is pleased with the collaboration: 'Through this kind of teamwork, we can further improve our relationship with Groenendijk and optimise our collaboration processes.' He also emphasises the excellent working experience with TU Delft: 'We've been working with them for around 20 years, of which the last six years have been on a contractual basis. So, we want to offer them the best.'
