SPIE : rewarded for recycling its waste

Brussels, September 6th, 2017 - SPIE Belgium, a subsidiary of the SPIE Group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, puts great effort into recycling its waste better and has been rewarded by two independent organisations. Let's take a closer look at these two environmental initiatives that are part of SPIE's corporate social responsibility policy.

SPIE has always made great effort to set up various initiatives at every level of the business to contribute to a more sustainable world. Today, SPIE Belgium's approach is being rewarded by two organisations: Natuurpunt and Val-I-Pac.

SPIE Belgium has chosen to work with the Flemish association, Natuurpunt, to recycle its IT equipment. In the second quarter of this year, SPIE Belgium delivered to Natuurpunt a total of 84 computers (including 60 laptops) and 8 mobile phones that were not reusable. In exchange, the association will plant about 27 trees this November and has awarded SPIE a recycling certification. Besides this recognition, SPIE Belgium is particularly proud to support a practical project to protect and preserve nature.

In addition, at the end of June 2017, SPIE Belgium also received a bonus from the Val-I-Pac organisation for recycling about 141,980 kg of wood. Val-I-Pac gives financial support to businesses that make the effort to sort their packaging waste. It's an initiative where everyone's a winner: the environment, because waste is recycled better; the company that's doing the recycling, as their waste is managed efficiently and they see a reward for their efforts; and Val-I-Pac, which meets its recycling targets in this way. But SPIE is not stopping there: the bonus we've received will be reinvested in a circular economy, recycling project between now and the end of the year.

Erwin De Bock, Director of Strategy, Development and Purchasing at SPIE Belgium, is proud to have been awarded this certification and bonus: 'For SPIE, these represent far more than just a document and financial reward, they serve, above all, to crown the efforts our teams make every day to make SPIE a sustainable business. It goes without saying that we intend to continue and repeat these environmental actions over the long term. '
