  SSE PLC said Tuesday that it has appointed John Manzoni as chairman of the board, effective April 1, 2021. 


  The FTSE 100 energy company said Mr. Manzoni will succeed Richard Gillingwater following a time-limited extension to his tenure. 


  Mr. Manzoni will join the board as a nonexecutive director starting on Sept. 1, 2020, and will work with Mr. Gillingwater for a smooth handover of responsibilities, it added. 


  The company said Mr. Manzoni brings with him a wealth of experience in the energy industry, having held senior executive roles within BP PLC and Talisman Energy, before spending six years as Chief Executive of the Civil Service and Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Office.
