  • Company becomes first bus operator to receive Transportation Safety Exchange rating

Low-fares inter-city coach provider megabus.com has been named Safety Champion by the Transportation Safety Exchange (TSX) in the US.

The company has become the first bus operator to receive the safety rating from TSX, an independent safety rating organisation that provides safety ratings of more than 300,000 passenger and freight carriers.

The TSX Safety Champion Programme identifies and recognises individuals and organisations committed to making the roads safer, either through demonstrating best practice, improving equipment or enacting laws that help achieve this mission. TSX Safety Champions are selected by the TSX team based on the company's ongoing commitment to safety. megabus.com is also a TSX approved operator.

"We are very proud of being selected as a TSX Safety Champion as it demonstrates recognition that we have implemented the highest standards of safety," said Don Carmichael, Executive Vice President and Senior Vice President, Safety of Coach USA/megabus.com.  "We take our commitment to safety very seriously and maintain the most stringent safety standards in the industry. It is very rewarding to be recognised for that commitment."

Dr. Jolanda Janczewski, Chief Executive Officer of Transportation Safety Exchange, said: "TSX recognises megabus.com's dedication to safety as they have demonstrated the highest standards with regard to their safety programme and safety-conscious culture throughout their organisation. megabus.com truly embraces the fact that safety is their first priority."

"It is important for customers to have a way to identify the safer carriers on the road," added Janczewski. "We believe that quality service delivery, which includes a non-compromising approach to safety, is a distinct advantage in the motor coach industry. It's very impressive that megabus.com has been selected as a TSX Safety Champion. This further demonstrates their dedication to the highest safety standards."

TSX is the ground transportation industry's only independent rating organization that inspects, monitors and reports the safety performance of transport companies. TSX performs ongoing monthly monitoring to ensure that TSX-approved operators like megabus.com continually upholds the highest standards of safety.

"Customers can be assured that megabus.com's commitment in this area will continue with ongoing investment in safety policies, programs and systems," added Don Carmichael.
