Adam Maleitzke, AICP, has joined Stantec-a global architecture, planning, and engineering firm-as an urban design and planning lead. Maleitzke will work from the firm's Downtown Los Angeles office and lead the growth and expansion of Stantec's Urban Places-the firm's interdisciplinary team of urban planning, design, mobility, and resilience experts-in the LA region and the West Coast.
Maleitzke has more than 15 years of experience providing planning and urban design for large-scale transportation, transit-oriented development (TOD), and mixed-use development projects. He has recently helped deliver numerous projects in Southern California for major clients, including the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and is skilled at managing the preparation of master plans, station area plans, active transportation plans, streetscape plans, specific plans and feasibility studies.
Prior to joining Stantec, Maleitzke coordinated planning services for several critical urban design projects across Southern California, including:
The design-build of approximately 44 miles of the California High-Speed Rail Authority corridor, including a half dozen stations/stops. His role included supervising the preparation of 5% station design plans in support of environmental review for the construction of a 30-mile-long, high-speed rail line between Los Angeles Union Station and Anaheim.
Development of station area vision plans for communities throughout Southern California as part of the Southern California Association of Governments High-Quality Transit Area Analysis pilot project, including the cities of Riverside, San Bernardino, Oxnard, El Monte, and Santa Clarita. The vision plans will guide TOD investments near high-frequency transitways and track reductions in greenhouse gases and vehicle miles traveled as the region becomes more resilient, walkable, and sustainable.
Furnished urban design and streetscape design services for the development of design guidelines for several major projects to enhance ground transportation options at Los Angeles International Airport, as part of the Landside Access Modernization Program.
Led urban design, master planning, and outreach for the City of Long Beach Downtown and TOD Pedestrian Master Plan. The plan provides policies, guidelines, and standards for pedestrian design and the identification of $70 million in recommended capital improvement projects.
'Adam brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in urban design and planning to our growing Los Angeles, community development, engineering, architecture and Urban Places teams,' said Patrick M. McKelvey, a senior principal in Stantec's Los Angeles office. 'His experience seamlessly complements and enhances the expertise of our local office, which has deep expertise in transit planning and engineering, infill development, TODs, and transit design. We are thrilled to expand our design and planning practice to integrate this specialized expertise as we deepen our roots across the greater Los Angeles region and West Coast.'
'I'm excited to welcome Adam to our Urban Places team in Los Angeles, which is poised for significant urban change in the next decade,' said Andrew Irvine, co-leader of Stantec's Urban Places, planning, and urban design team. 'Adam is an industry leader with a proven record of exceptional project delivery, and his addition to our team represents an important next step as we continue to grow our practice.'
Maleitzke graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Urban Studies, a Master of Urban and Regional Planning, and a Master of Landscape Architecture. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the Urban Land Institute.
