As the demand for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure continues to grow, global design and engineering firm Stantec is helping to bring another charging plaza to the City of Pasadena. Following the May 2020 launch of the Marengo Charging Plaza, one of the largest public fast-charging stations in the nation, the new Arroyo Parkway Charging Depot-which includes fast-charging stations owned by the City and by Tesla-will bring approximately 26 additional chargers to the area.

Stantec will assist with the design of the city-owned DC Fast Chargers, which serve all EV types. 'Fast' chargers are high-power EV chargers that minimize charging time, getting drivers back on the road with at least an 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes or less. Stantec's design team is responsible for engineering the power switch gear, associated structural engineering, and permitting.

'We're excited to continue working with Pasadena Water and Power to expand charging options for electric vehicle owners in Southern California,' said Wicus Postma, a sector leader in Stantec's Energy and Resources group. 'It's critical to continue to grow the EV infrastructure, especially in California-a leader in sustainability and clean air practices.'

'The Arroyo Parkway Charging Depot is another way Pasadena Water and Power supports our electric vehicle customers with clean transportation infrastructure.' said Assistant General Manager of Electric Delivery, Marvin Moon. 'We are grateful for the support of our project partners Stantec, Greenlots and Tesla to help make this public charging facility a reality.'

The new Arroyo Parkway Charging Depot is one of several EV charging infrastructure projects Stantec is delivering in support of California's goal to decrease emissions and increase clean air using EVs. In Northern California, the firm is supporting the California Department of General Services in developing a series of charging infrastructure projects. The projects involve site assessments at state-owned properties-including prisons, remote Department of Fish and Wildlife locations, hospitals, and parking garages-and detailed infrastructure design.

In the City of Rochester, New York, Stantec recently completed the design for the installation of 27 charging stations at seven locations throughout the City, selected for their public profile and traffic patterns-the first such installations in Rochester. The firm is also assisting two confidential EV developers with the rollout of their ultra-fast DC charging stations at more than 120 locations across Canada. Stantec provides the siting, electrical, civil, survey, and structural design services and is coordinating with cities, developers, and utilities for design guidelines.
