Global design firm Stantec has been recognized at the 14th edition of the Grands Prix du Design international competition for three of its iconic urban planning and landscape architecture projects in Quebec. Montreal's Westmount Park protection and enhancement plan won a Gold award and will be entered in the Grands Lauréats event, with the winners unveiled on September 18, 2021. Montreal's Plaza St-Hubert project and Quebec City's Place de Paris project received a number of Silver and Bronze awards in multiple categories.

The annual Grands Prix du Design awards celebrate the work of designers who enhance the quality of our lives and the built environment in Quebec, Canada and around the world. The jury is made up of leading professionals, prominent academics and influential members of the global press.

'Our teams have created inspirational spaces and landscapes that accommodate users' realities and needs, while taking into account sustainable development imperatives,' said Steve Potvin, Principal, Urban Planning and Development at Stantec. 'Creativity and innovation are at the heart of these projects, reflecting each site's purpose and unique character. We are very proud of them.'

Montreal's Westmount Park protection and enhancement plan
As part of its master plan for parks and green spaces, the City of Westmount hired Stantec to rethink Westmount Park, a 100-year-old park covering more than 10 hectares of land. Thanks to a land use analysis and an extensive participation process, Stantec proposed a design that would tailor the park to users' needs and the park's identity within a sustainable development perspective.

Montreal's Plaza St-Hubert redevelopment
Home to more than 400 shops, Plaza St-Hubert is a major commercial strip in Montreal. Stantec completed a full redevelopment of the space, incorporating new sustainable development principles. The space now emphasizes intermodal connections and user-friendliness and boasts a modern new glass awning, wider sidewalks, festive programmable lighting and plantings.

Quebec City's Place de Paris redevelopment
Located in the heart of the Old Quebec City, Place de Paris has a new look following a major transformation that combines the area's history and the site's unique features. Stantec proposed a design reminiscent of the old shoreline, incorporating urban furniture, green space and new ambient lighting, while maintaining its purpose as a gathering place and providing facilities to meet users' needs.
