(Alliance News) - Carlos Tavares, current CEO of Stellantis, will leave his post at the end of 2025, officially for personal reasons related to his age but also because of the difficulties the group has faced recently.

As Milano Finanza reports, in the U.S., Stellantis has overstocked and the value of its shares has plummeted significantly. In Italy, production has also dropped and Tavares has stoked tensions with the government and labor unions. To deal with the crisis, he restructured management and promised to solve the problems before his retirement.

The search for a successor is already under way, and according to John Elkann, chairman of Stellantis, the choice could fall to an internal candidate.

Among the most likely names are Frenchmen Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of the commercial vehicle division, and Olivier Francois, head of Fiat and Abarth.

Other candidates include Italian Antonio Filosa, current CEO of Jeep, and American Christine Feuell, head of Chrysler and Ram.

However, outside profiles are also being considered, such as Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault, and Jose Munoz of Hyundai, while a more remote suggestion is Mary Barra of General Motors.

The decision should be made by mid-2025 to ensure an orderly transition.
