08 March, 2021 Stericycle Celebrates International Women's Day

On Monday, March 8, 2021, people around the world will recognize International Women's Day. While this occasion presents an opportunity to honor women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements, it also reminds us of the need to raise awareness against bias and commit to action for equality. The theme of this year's event is #ChoosetoChallenge, which aims to inspire people to work together during these difficult times to forge a more gender equal world.

Bringing Leaders and Future Leaders Together

It is in the spirit of International Women's Day that Stericycle is hosting our first ever Virtual International Women's Summit, which extends throughout the month of March. Held in partnership with our women's employee resource group, Women's Resource for Impact, Success and Empowerment, or WRISE, the summit brings together current and future female leaders for a series of professional development, wellness, and empowerment events designed to foster personal, career, and leadership growth. Some specific topics covered include building your brand internally, navigating change, ensuring financial health, maintaining work-life balance, and achieving mental toughness. In addition, several of our senior leaders will walk through their journeys to leadership, offering valuable insights and lessons learned.

Empowering Women Throughout the Year

Our commitment to honoring and advancing women extends well beyond our March programming. WRISE works diligently throughout the year to reach women across the company and help them view senior leadership positions as attainable. The fast-growing network provides strong leadership support and has a robust membership of more than 250 Stericycle team members, located across the United States and Canada. One of the group's goals is to build a pipeline of female leaders at every level. To that end, WRISE provides forums for women to engage with other team members with shared interests and be inspired to reach their highest potential. The group is designed to enable connections, advance skills, and provide professional development and mentorship, which in turn encourages team members to contribute within our organization and across their communities.

Setting Goals to Expand Gender Parity

Along with providing resources for empowerment and career growth, Stericycle is dedicated to expanding gender parity throughout the organization. With a corporate board comprised of 33% women, we exceed the national average for female-held board seats, which is currently 24.5%. In addition, Cindy Miller sits at our company's helm, becoming chief executive officer in May 2019 after serving as the chief operating officer and president. Currently, women make up 24% of our total workforce and 30% of our leadership. Looking ahead, we are committed to promoting more equal representation and expanding the role of women throughout the company, especially in leadership positions.

Stericycle is passionate about cultivating leaders, encouraging diversity, and promoting inclusion. To learn more about our commitment to equality, visit our Culture page.
