STHREE PLC At SThree we want to make sure children are given access to STEM at any age - that's why our foundation funds workshops in schools through our community partner, SATRO.
We're committed to developing the STEM talent pipeline and making sure these skills are accessible to everyone. That's where educational charity SATRO comes in. It operates across the South East of England and organises workshops and events which inspire young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
Education has been disrupted significantly in the last 12 months due to the pandemic. However, despite the challenges, 400 young people still benefited from STEM workshops funded by the SThree Foundation.
The programme includes a variety of sessions which help to engage youngsters and get them enthused about STEM. This ranges from science experiments, coding, and robotics to Fun Maths and Lego.
Our most recent session involved 120 pupils at Earlswood Junior School who took part in a Lego WeDo workshop. The kids were asked to build a model before using computer software to programme the Lego so it was able to move.
Half of those who took part said they enjoyed programming before the workshop. This number increased to almost 80% afterwards, highlighting just how vital these sessions are in ensuring schoolchildren are inspired by and excited about STEM.
And this is just the beginning. Our funding will be extended in 2021 to help 1,458 more students get excited about STEM.
