Peter Krammer, who most recently served on the Management Board of STRABAG SE, will take over as CEO of Swietelsky AG from Karl Weidlinger from April 2023.

Since 2009, i.e. 13 years, graduate engineer Karl Weidlinger has shaped the Linz-based construction group SWIETELSKY and led it among the three industry leaders in Austria. A highly successful era, in which the traditional company has more than doubled its construction output and was able to successfully expand in all sectors, is now coming to an end. It was precisely this expansion that was never the primary goal of Weidlinger, who repeatedly emphasized his credo of the 'sustainable deepening of value creation with prudence and foresight'. He is now planning to hand over his responsibility for more than 3 billion euros in construction work and around 12,000 employees in 19 countries due to retirement. The succession has already been settled.

Lasting merits of Karl Weidlinger

Supervisory Board Chairman Dr. Gunther Grassner praises the services of the outgoing CEO: 'Karl Weidlinger is characterized by extraordinary expertise and no less pronounced strategic skills. His unifying appearance has had a lasting impact on the company both internally and externally.' Weidlinger's particular success is generally regarded as the takeover and successful integration of key parts of ALPINE, which has become insolvent, about nine years ago. At that time, SWIETELSKY's position in the market improved sustainably and around a thousand jobs were secured.

Well-prepared and partnership-based handover

To ensure that the handover can take place in the best possible way, Weidlinger's successor has already been chosen: Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Peter Krammer is known to all industry experts as a top manager of STRABAG. He received his doctorate in technical sciences from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Vienna University of Technology in 1995. He then gained professional experience at Porr Technobau AG, STRABAG and SWIETELSKY until he returned to STRABAG AG, Austria, in 2005. As a member of the Executive Board, he was responsible for the Building and Civil Engineering Division in Eastern Europe and for Environmental Technology throughout the Group. Peter Krammer has been a member of the Management Board of STRABAG SE since January 1, 2010. On 1 January 2023, he will join the Management Board of Swietelsky AG and take over as Chairman of the Management Board on 1 April. Until then, Karl Weidlinger will remain in his function and focus on an orderly handover to Peter Krammer.

One of the most distinguished managers in Europe's construction industry

As the subsequent CEO, Swietelsky AG was able to engage one of the most prominent managers in the European construction industry. Gunther Grassner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, commented: 'Peter Krammer is not only the best qualified person for this number 1 position, but also has an excellent network within the company as a returnee. With him at the helm, Swietelsky AG will maintain its proven course of solid prosperity.' He can certainly count on the ideas and full commitment of all employees.

Great challenges and a lot of optimism

Peter Krammer is looking forward to the new task, especially since SWIETELSKY was already an essential station in his CV in earlier times. Coming back there soon after important and formative experiences and helping to shape the company in a leading position fills him with pride. 'It is important to take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitization, to offer innovative answers to the climate change and to adapt our business models to the requirements of the times,' says Peter Krammer, designated CEO of Swietelsky AG. He himself is full of optimism that this will succeed together.
