Sumitomo Electric Industries : Provides Guidance to Engineers Engaged in Communications Infrastructure in Cambodia

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., at the request of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, has cooperated in providing technical guidance for engineers engaged in communications infrastructure at a human resource development seminar held at the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC), a vocational school in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from February 28 to March 4, 2022.

As part of the Official Development Assistance (ODA), ongoing projects provide skill testing seminars, and trials are provided to governments and vocational training institutions in developing countries in Asia.

Cambodia is aiming to newly establish and introduce an "Information Network Cabling" job at the vocational skills competition of Cambodia scheduled to be held in the fall of 2022. The last fiscal year was positioned as a period for capacity building (acquisition of knowledge, skills, and teaching methods) of local instructors.

Therefore, Sumitomo Electric and its group company Sumitomo Electric (Thailand) Ltd. provided fusion splicers and related products as well as seminars and technical guidance on optical fiber splicing to 6 instructors from 3 vocational schools.

The instructors who attended this event commented "we will use the knowledge we gained from this technical guidance and the materials provided at the seminar to train the engineers who will be participating in the competition".Furthermore, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare expressed its gratitude to the success of this event and to the improved understanding of the Japanese engineer evaluation system in Cambodia. The Sumitomo Electric Group will continue to provide technical guidance and cooperation for the development of human resources involved in building Cambodia's telecommunications infrastructure, thereby contributing to the spread of optical interconnection in developing countries.
