Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (Philippines) Receives an Outstanding Community Project Award from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority

Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (SMM)'s subsidiary the Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) has received from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA)1 a PEZA Outstanding Community Project Award2 for 2016.

Now in their 22nd year, the annual PEZA Awards are divided into the four categories of Exporters, Employers, Community Projects, and Environmental Performers, and presented to companies whose work in these categories deserves special note.

CBNC was among the 10 companies who received awards in the Community Projects category this year, and it was selected in recognition of the great contribution it makes to the communities in the surrounding area through the provision of electricity to residents, development of way for residents of a region to earn a living, medical support, scholarship support, volunteering, and other activities that make up its Social Development and Management Program.

In addition to making continued contributions to surrounding communities, CBNC shall continue to strive to minimize its environmental footprint, prevent accidents that harm the environment, restore the ecosystem in former tailing dam areas through greening, and take all other measures to ensure responsible operation.
