SHKP and Elite Athletes Join Hands to Motivate Students Exercise for Good Cause
Turning the Fruits of Exercise into Resources While Celebrating Christmas with Disadvantaged Children

As Christmas draws near, Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) recently offered blessings to disadvantaged children living in Shui Chuen O Estate with a group of primary five student cyclists as part of the 'SHKP Exercise for Good in Schools' programme. SHKP Executive Director Mr. Adam Kwok even transformed into Santa Claus and spent a joyful morning playing games with children from different parts of the community. The 'SHKP Exercise for Good in Schools' programme is a community outreach activity under the SHKP Vertical Run for Charity - Race to Hong Kong ICC and Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon. Participating students experience the fun of exercise under the guidance of professionals to develop the habits of living a healthy life while turning the cycling miles they accumulate into resources for disadvantaged children.

SHKP Executive Director Mr. Adam Kwok thanked Sport.Plus founder and former Hong Kong racing cyclist Marco Kwok for his collaboration with SHKP in launching the 'SHKP Exercise for Good in Schools' programme. He remarked that it was such a precious gift that groups of children who had never met each other before could care for and get to know each other at Christmas time when people join together in joy and jubilation and it gave him great pleasure to be involved in the programme and have a wonderful morning spent with the children. He hopes that these children will remain healthy and caring when they grow up. The students in the programme racked up 2,800 cycling miles, which were turned into book vouchers and given to 200 disadvantaged students in Shui Chuen O Estate in Sha Tin.

Five primary schools joining the programme include St. Patrick's School, Price Memorial Catholic Primary School, Buddhist Chi King Primary School, St. Edward's Catholic Primary School and Yan Chai Hospital Chan Iu Seng Primary School, and the number of participants reaches 2,700. In addition to providing cycling training and miles earning, the programme instills positive values into primary school students through experience sharing by athletes on campus to strengthen their willpower and ability to cope with adversity so that they can rise to difficulties and challenges with a positive attitude and live a happy childhood. Apart from Sport.Plus founder and former Hong Kong racing cyclist Marco Kwok, this year also saw the participation of 2012 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships winner Leung Chun-wing, track and field athlete Christy Yiu, karate athlete Jimmy Lee and rope skipping World Champion Kelvin Man.

Guided by its long-standing commitment to Building Homes with Heart, SHKP actively promotes reading and a healthy lifestyle and cares for the underprivileged. It encourages the public to support charity through sports by organising the SHKP Vertical Run for Charity - Race to Hong Kong ICC and assuming title and charity sponsorship of the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon. Every year, the Group makes an extra donation to support social welfare projects for disadvantaged children and youth. To date, it has supported more than 10 projects, benefitting young children with special education needs, physically challenged young people and gifted children from disadvantaged families and others.
