SHKP's subsidiaries Kai Shing and Hong Yip earn accolades at the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence

Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited's (SHKP) subsidiaries, Kai Shing Management Services Limited and Hong Yip Service Company Limited, won a host of honours at the 2017 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE), with Landmark North striking gold in the Property Management (Commercial & Industrial) category and Aegean Coast receiving gold in the Property Management (Residential) category. The latest awards made Kai Shing the city's only establishment to win 11 golds at the event within a decade. Hong Yip and Kai Shing were also recipients of the 10th Anniversary Special Awards. These accolades represent a new level of respect from industry professionals in response to SHKP's exceptional performance in green management.

Successful promotion of low-carbon living earns Landmark North gold award

Landmark North believes that 'Everyone Can Help Combat Climate Change'. Under the administration of Kai Shing, Landmark North has been promoting low-carbon living among tenants, customers and the community at large with an emphasis on energy saving plus reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and food waste. Its podium garden features a planting area as well as an Aquaponics ecosystem, allowing tenants and the public to experience the pleasures of organic farming. Energy saving devices were also added to the mall's water-cooled central, central air-conditioning system to enhance efficiency. Moreover, Landmark North continues to roll out green programmes, including a Student Environmental Protection Ambassador Scheme to cultivate green awareness among primary and secondary students in the districts through seminars, workshops, eco-guide tours and more. These efforts earned widespread acclaim from the judging panel and secured the gold award for Landmark North in the Property Management (Commercial & Industrial) category.

Gold award winner Aegean Coast promotes a three-step environmental audit

The gold award in the Property Management (Residential) category went to Aegean Coast, another property managed by Kai Shing. The company works relentlessly to spread the message of Go Green Together at Aegean Coast. It promotes a 'three-step environmental audit', an innovative solution giving residents and the community useful tips on reducing leftovers and other waste as well as lowering energy consumption. Aegean Coast also embraces renewable energy options. It is among the first properties to install a solar on-grid system, which will be connected to a power company's grid in support of their latest renewable power purchase plan. In a similar vein, Aegean Coast took advantage of the clubhouse's tilted glass canopy and installed a self-developed solar-powered mist cooling system that uses rainwater to generate mist, which cools the clubhouse's glass canopy and lowers indoor temperature. Moreover, the residential development features a Green Garden educational corner to provide 14 eco-friendly tips as well as guided tours as a way to sow the seeds of green living within the community.

Silver award to The Leighton Hill for sustained green management

The Leighton Hill won silver in the Residential category. Managed by Supreme Management Services Limited, an associate of Kai Shing, The Leighton Hill is committed to sustaining a green management system. Facilities upgrades were also carried out to continuously enhance energy saving performance and carbon reduction. For instance, the old heat pump system in the clubhouse was replaced by a new model to enable integration with the cooling water tower, significantly boosting the overall efficiency of both systems. In addition, The Leighton Hill works closely with different organizations to promote green messages through various channels, including workshops, seminars, ecotours, carnivals, green farming activities along with a range of recycling programmes and award schemes. These initiatives have embodied the development's motto of Creating Enduring Greenery at The Leighton Hill and helped staff, residents, contractors and people in other neighbourhoods learn more about waste management, biodiversity and climate change while strengthening their overall eco-consciousness.

Bronze award winner Mikiki formulates Premium Management Charter

Mikiki, the bronze award winner in the Commercial & Industrial category, is managed by Hong Yip. True to its commitment to energy saving and other green initiatives, Mikiki assembled a task force to set annual energy conservation targets and conduct regular follow-ups and reviews. In 2013, Mikiki received the ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification in recognition of its respective achievements. Mikiki's tenants were invited to add their signature to the Quality Management Charter - a set of eco-friendly principles formulated by the mall. The mall also provides free energy efficiency evaluations of devices for tenants to help them realize their energy consumption level. Furthermore, Mikiki collects condensation water from air-conditioning and fan units to cool the car park by three to five degrees Celsius, resulting in a lower level of energy consumption by the air-conditioning system. Following the implementation of a series of green measures, the overall power consumed by Mikiki in 2016/17 was 10% less than that of the previous year.

Bronze award winner Aria stages Green Marks Reward Scheme

Aria is managed by Royal Elite Service Co. Ltd, an associate of Hong Yip. As part of its long-term efforts to provide green lifestyles to residents, Aria introduced a Green Marks Reward Scheme to encourage residents to take part in the estate's environmental activities. Residents can redeem food and beverage coupons in return for active participation. In addition, the Aria management team collects leftover food from residents, which will be transformed by food waste composters into organic fertilizer for the estate's gardens. When the indoor heated pool is closed, the management staff covers the water surface with insulation blankets to reduce heat loss. Furthermore, the proprietary smart patrol system Nitrol was fully adopted by Aria, allowing control room staff to check patrol information in real time on a cloud-based integrated platform. The use of paper is kept to a minimum since staff no longer need to print out patrol records. Aria continues to put great efforts to protect the environment. The development contributes to green causes by participating in contests organized by professional bodies, which further boosts its attempts to spread green message, reduce waste and carbon emissions, as well as beautify its landscaped areas.

Tsuen Wan Plaza receives Outstanding Green Leadership Award for its exceptional contributions

Tsuen Wan Plaza was recognized with two awards: Outstanding Green Leadership Award and Certificate of Merit in the Property Management (Commercial & Industrial) category. Under the administration of Hong Yip, Tsuen Wan Plaza continues to implement waste reduction and recycling policies. The mall minimized the use of resources by implementing best practices in energy management and smart management. Its green message reaches not only tenants but also staff and the wider community. The Outstanding Green Leadership Award is meant to acknowledge the mall's unstinting efforts to promote and practice green management along with its participation in HKAEE for 10 consecutive years.
