CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Suncor Energy Inc. (SU) on Monday reported first-quarter net income of $648.3 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had profit of 43 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 39 cents per share.

The energy company posted revenue of $6.82 billion in the period.

Suncor Energy shares have risen 31% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 28% in the last 12 months.
