CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Suncor Energy Inc. (SU) on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $706.6 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had net income of 47 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 39 cents per share.

The energy company posted revenue of $7.4 billion in the period.

Suncor Energy shares have climbed 22% since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 27% in the last 12 months.
