Suncorp has signed an agreement with the Queensland Government to partner in delivering the Resilient Homes Fund program, which has been designed to build resilience for flood-impacted homeowners.

Suncorp Group CEO Steve Johnston, who joined the Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles to launch the Resilient Home Fund in March 2022, said Suncorp was proud to have worked with the Queensland Government since that time to operationalise the design and delivery of the program.

"Suncorp is committed to bringing the Queensland Government's Resilient Homes Fund to life for our customers by aligning our claims and repairs processes to improve the resilience of their homes and better safeguard them against the impacts of extreme weather," Mr Johnston said.

"Suncorp has selected 20 of our flood-impacted customers as test cases ahead of a wider program roll out."

The Resilient Homes Fund program is a record $741 million investment by the Queensland and Federal Governments. The program provides funding to homeowners to incorporate flood resilient design and materials in their homes, or to raise or buy back their homes.

Homeowners of directly flood-affected residential properties within 39 local government areas during select rainfall and flooding events through 2021-22 may be eligible for the Fund. Mr Johnston said the program highlighted the importance of governments at all levels, insurers, customers and communities working together to design solutions that better protect people, homes and communities from the increasing threat of natural disasters.

"We all have a critical role to play when it comes to being better prepared for and protected against severe weather and it's good to see progress being made on this front. Targeted investment like this program will help to reduce the impacts of extreme weather and create safer communities and stronger economies," Mr Johnston said.

"More funding for disaster readiness is vital and must focus on communities where there is high risk of extreme weather and low levels of flood resilience, and Suncorp will continue to advocate strongly for this," he said.

"Hopefully we can see this program act as a blueprint for other states given the widespread impacts of natural disasters on people and communities across the nation. Our thoughts remain with those affected by recent flooding across parts of Victoria, Tasmania and NSW, and our teams are in place online, via telephone and on the ground where they've been able to gain safe access to support our impacted customers."
