(Alliance News) - Surface Transforms PLC on Tuesday said it has appointed a new chief operating officer, who is set to leave his current company for the new role in early September.

The Liverpool-based manufacturer of carbon fibre-reinforced ceramic materials said Stephen Easton, UK managing director at SGL Carbon Ltd, will take over on September 4, after 16 years with the graphite and fibre manufacturing company.

Surface Transforms said Easton's appointment marks a "further step" towards strengthening its senior management team "to ensure the company successfully delivers its current manufacturing expansion plan and financial transformation into a high revenue growth and profitable business".

This includes the delivery of its order book, which has a lifetime value of around GBP290 million, and of its prospective contract pipeline, which has a GBP393 million lifetime value, Surface Transforms added.

Chief Executive Officer Kevin Johnson said: "The combination of [Easton's] extensive manufacturing engineering experience, his highly relevant expertise in building and operating high temperature manufacturing plants and his people management skills are well suited to our current and future requirements."

Shares in Surface Transforms were down 1.5% to 35.48 pence each in London on Tuesday late morning.
