BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (AP) _ Surgery Partners Inc. (SGRY) on Tuesday reported a loss of $22.9 million in its third quarter.

The Brentwood, Tennessee-based company said it had a loss of 28 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs and stock option expense, came to 5 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 4 cents per share.

The surgical facilities operator posted revenue of $559.2 million in the period, which topped Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $554.2 million.
