Syensqo announced on Monday that its Managing Director Ilham Kadri has been appointed President of the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic).

The executive will succeed Martin Brudermüller, the former boss of German giant BASF, who retired last month.

Founded in 1972, the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) is considered the voice of large, medium and small chemical companies across Europe.

The federation is notably behind the recent 'Antwerp Declaration', signed by 1,000 companies and organizations from the Old Continent, calling for an 'ambitious European industrial pact'.

'In the coming months, my ambition is to see Europe place the competitiveness of industry at the heart of its decision-making process', emphasized Ilham Kadri.

She also expressed her wish for Europe to become the world's center of innovation, notably on the basis of strong market demand for the most sustainable products.
