2. Status of General Account Assets
(1) Investment Performance
As of September 30, 2021, general account assets totaled ¥1,884.6 billion, an increase of ¥46.2 billion from the previous fiscal year-end.
The main compositions of general account assets were as follows: monetary trusts 63.7% [61.6%] (See note) which account for 19.9% domestic bonds and 41.5% foreign securities, domestic bonds 19.3% [19.6%], and cash and deposits, call loans 11.7% [13.2%].
For the six months ended September 30, 2021, investment income totaled ¥4.3 billion and investment expenses totaled ¥1.8 billion. As a result, net investment income totaled ¥2.4 billion.
Investment income included ¥3.3 billion of interests, dividends and income from real estate for rent and ¥0.9 billion of gains on sales of securities.
Investment expenses included ¥0.7 billion of foreign exchange losses, net and ¥0.5 billion of losses from monetary trusts, net. Losses from monetary trusts, net were mainly due to foreign exchange losses, net from foreign bonds which were held in response to policy reserve for the foreign-exchange-rate-linked insurance. The impact on net income was limited since this foreign exchange losses, net are offset against decreasing policy reserve for the foreign-exchange-rate-linked insurance due to exchange rate fluctuation.
