Talos Energy Inc. announced that Co-founder Tim Duncan left the president and CEO roles effective August 29, 2024. Joseph A. Mills, aged 64, who joined Talos' board of directors in March, will serve as interim president and CEO until a successor takes over. The board is working with a nationally recognized executive search firm to assist in the search for the next CEO.

Duncan helped found Talos in February 2012. Before that, he was senior vice president of business development and founder of Phoenix Exploration Co. LP, which was sold to Houston-based Apache Corp.

in 2011. He also previously worked for Gryphon Exploration Co., Amerada Hess Corp., Zilkha Energy Co. and Pennzoil E&P Co.

Mills has over 42 years of experience across the oil and gas industry. He serves on the boards of several other private exploration and production companies and has been CEO of Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Samson Resources II LLC since March 2017. Before that, he held roles such as chairman and CEO for several public and private oil and gas companies, including Eagle Rock Energy G&P LLC and Roan Resources Co.

He also served in director and executive officer positions with several other companies. Mr. Mills received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Petroleum Land Management from the University of Texas and a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from the University of Houston.
