Target Corp. and Ulta Beauty Inc. will initiate a retail partnership, bringing a "shop-in-shop" model to more than 100 Target locations next year, the companies said Tuesday.

The Ulta Beauty at Target sites will comprise spaces of around 1,000 square feet within existing Target stores. Target will train store workers to sell Ulta cosmetics products in the areas, which will be placed near Target's existing beauty sections.

The collaboration will also extend to Target's website and retail app, where interfaces for buying Ulta products will mirror the in-store experience, the companies said.

Ulta and Target said they plan to bring the model to hundreds more locations over time. Ulta Chief Executive Mary Dillon described the strategy as a way to expand the potential of Ulta's physical and digital footprints.
