Tata Steel paid homage to its Founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, also regarded as the legendary 'Father of Indian Industry' on his 183rd Birth Anniversary. Celebrated as the Founder's Day, the flagship event happens every year at Jamshedpur on March 3 to pay tributes to the founder's vision of an industrial future with community welfare at its core.

The event in Jamshedpur today was graced by N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons and T V Narendran, CEO & MD, Tata Steel. Other senior company officials, as well as Union members, were also present during the occasion.

In his address to the citizens of Jamshedpur at Bistupur Postal Park, N Chandrasekaran said: 'The citizens of Jamshedpur have always been supportive of Tata Steel and the Tata Group. The way the people worked together during the Covid period is a testament to the value system that has been instilled in the group by our founder for a very long time.'

'Tata Steel has had the best-ever performance in its history, in terms of output and financial performance; it has been a historic one. The Company has a very energetic, vibrant, and well-meaning workforce. It beautifully blends growth, performance, and aspiration but most importantly does it with purpose and does not shy away from putting its hand up every time something needs to be done for the society. The Tata Group is committed to Tata Steel in a big way. The current capacity in India of 20 MnTPA is going to be doubled during this decade,' he added.

The theme of this year's Founder's Day is 'Life@TataSteel - Build the tomorrow you deserve', a reflection of life where profession meets passion, ambition meets compassion and work meets leisure and continue to build a Tata Steel where people work harmoniously today, to build a better tomorrow for self and the world. JN Tata had begun his entrepreneurial journey with a textile mill in central India in the 1870s. His vision inspired the steel and power industry in India, set the foundation for technical education, and helped the country leapfrog to join the ranks of industrialised nations. This year's exhibition at Steelenium Hall inside Jamshedpur Works was based on the same theme.

Like every year, around 40 landmark spots in Jamshedpur-including heritage buildings, places of worship, dozens of roundabouts etc. have been illuminated. The annual sporting activities were also held today at the JRD Sports Complex in Jamshedpur. However, they were restricted to 'no contact' sports like running, long jump, and race walk. The celebrations at Jamshedpur Works were live streamed for employees and the larger populace.

On March 2, 2022, various projects were inaugurated by N Chandrasekaran in the presence of T V Narendran. They included Integrated Sinter Plant Operation Centre (i-SPOC) at Jamshedpur Works, the virtual inauguration of remote trials of first equipment of Pellet Plant & Cold Rolling Mill at Tata Steel Kalinganagar, the ground-breaking ceremony of rooftop solar plants by Tata Power at Jamshedpur Works, and the inauguration of Fitness Avenue along Kadma-Sonari Link Road. He inaugurated the illumination at the Founder's Statue in Jubilee Park as well. The Chairman also met senior office-bearers of Tata Workers' Union at Jamshedpur Works.

Likewise, the Founder's Day celebrations were organised at other locations and offices of Tata Steel across the country. At the Kalinganagar Plant, the event included a march-past and flower tribute to the founder. Tata Steel's Meramandali plant in the Dhenkanal district of Odisha was decorated with lights and athletics competitions among children and employees were organised by the sports department to mark this occasion.

The celebrations were arranged by putting in place appropriate Covid-19 safety protocols while ensuring that all stakeholders are given enough opportunities to pay their respects to JN Tata's memory.
