A young Exeter couple went from renting to owning a new four-bedroom house thanks to the Government-backed Help-to-Buy scheme.

Kate Charlton and Joe Matthews were renting in the city whilst saving to buy their first home together. Kate, who works for the NHS, and Joe, who owns an Exeter gym, were not initially considering a new build property, but after visiting our Mayfield Gardens development in Monkerton and looking around the showhome, they realised the options open to them.

Kate said: 'After doing a lot of research into reputable housebuilders and speaking with others who owned a Taylor Wimpey home, we knew that we wanted to buy with Taylor Wimpey. After driving past Mayfield Gardens, we made sure to book in a visit as soon as the show homes opened, and we were not disappointed.'

Kate added: 'We were welcomed in as we entered the sales office and instantly felt comfortable. We didn't feel pressured into anything but were given all of the information we needed to make our decision.

'The whole process of buying with Taylor Wimpey was so easy. Moving and buying a house can be stressful, with lots of things to think about and plan, but the Taylor Wimpey team really made it very smooth for us. We felt comfortable asking any questions we had and received quick and polite responses.'

Along with their two dogs, Kate and Joe were among the first residents to move to Mayfield Gardens in December 2019 and are now enjoying their new community as it develops.

'Being one of the first people to move in on our site was both exciting and daunting at first, but any worries soon went away as we felt very supported by the customer care team. Since moving in we've been able to decorate and make our house into home. Friends and family always comment on how spacious it really is.'
