Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties has donated £250 to Dorset Mind, providing the charity with a boost to deliver its new mental health training course.

The charity, which delivers 1-2-1 befriending support to people near to Taylor Wimpey's upcoming Gillingham-based development, Gillingham Lakes, is part of a network of 130 local Mind branches in England and Wales.

Through its work, Dorset Mind aims to challenge mental health stigma and inequality, whilst promoting recovery by empowering individuals to develop resilience to these issues. These goals are delivered through the charity's support groups, counselling, and accredited befriending service.

The donation from Taylor Wimpey will help fund Dorset Mind's new Courageous Conversations training course, which is available to anyone who wants to make discussions about mental health part of their everyday.

The training provides a comprehensive action plan that can be used to explore an individual's mental health and offer support and signposting to those who may be suffering, safely, supportively, and effectively.

Marianne Storey, Chief Executive at Dorset Mind, said: 'We'd like to extend a huge thank you to Taylor Wimpey for supporting our new Courageous Conversations training session. It aims to equip people with skills they need to become more confident at having an effective conversation about their wellbeing.

'In turn, this will help challenge the stigma around mental health so that people, especially men, are not afraid to talk about how they are feeling - and importantly, reach out for help and support if they need it.'

Roz Wells, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said: 'The pandemic has been tough on everyone, but for those suffering from mental health issues, it's been an even more debilitating time.

'This is why we are thrilled to have been able to support Dorset Mind and help fund the charity's new training programme, Courageous Conversations.

'We pride ourselves on giving multiple regular small donations to local causes in the communities around our developments and we're pleased to contribute to such a great cause which is making a positive difference to those in need.'
