TC Energy Corp. on Tuesday said it will spend 146 million Canadian dollars ($107.2 million) to build its first solar power project in Canada.
The Calgary, Alberta-based energy company said it will begin pre-construction activities on the Saddlebrook Solar Project near Aldersyde, Alberta. The project will generate 81 megawatts, enough to power 20,000 homes annually, the company said.
TC Energy said it has obtained all regulatory approvals and permits and expects construction to be completed in 2023. The project includes installing solar panels on TC Energy property.
TC Energy received C$10 million from the Alberta government to support developing the hybrid solar generation facility.
