O2, the core brand of Telefónica Deutschland, is setting a visible sign for diversity and tolerance today for the European Championship match. Starting at 9 p.m., the 37th floor of the O2 Tower, the tallest building in Munich at 146 meters, will shine in rainbow colors from all sides. In this way, the company makes a visible statement that will shine in the Munich night sky from sunset onwards. In addition, the O2 logos on the O2 Tower will be presented in rainbow colors by laser.
Markus Haas
'Diversity and tolerance enrich our daily lives - in private and at work. That's why we want to send a visible signal by illuminating the O2 Tower in Munich. We are colorful - not only today! As an internationally active group, however, we want to emphasize our solidarity and openness to the world in particular in these challenging times. As a Munich resident, this is also a very important personal concern for me today. In addition, I hope that we experience a peaceful and respectful soccer match, which we will hopefully win,' said Markus Haas, CEO of Telefónica Deutschland / O2. Citing political neutrality, the European Football Union (UEFA) has banned Munich from illuminating its soccer stadium in rainbow colors for today's European Championship match between Germany and Hungary. The city of Munich wanted to send a signal for diversity, tolerance, respect, solidarity and against homophobia. Now various cities, including Munich, as well as soccer clubs and companies are planning actions for today to promote equality for homosexual and transsexual people. The rainbow colors are considered a sign of tolerance, acceptance and diversity of lifestyles in numerous cultures.
O2 recognizes the diversity of genders, lifestyles and age groups as a prerequisite for happiness in life and corporate success. The company is committed to equal opportunities and diversity and actively participates in the Global Diversity Council of the Telefónica Group. Employees from 75 nations work at the locations in Germany; young talents as well as seasoned employees. The company aims to achieve a share of women in senior leadership positions of 30 percent in 2022 and 33 percent by 2024. Currently, the proportion is around 28 percent, which is significantly higher than the proportion of women in the German information and telecommunications industry, which is just 17 percent. The company has already received several awards for its commitment to equality and inclusion, including a listing in the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index (GEI).
