Telefónica Deutschland presents networking solutions for the first time at the ITS World Congress in Hamburg from October 11 to 15
Telefónica Deutschland / O2 will present for the first time at ITS World Congress Hamburg(October 11-15) a mobile edge computing networking solution that enables digital mobility applications via real-time communication in the 5G network. The company will also showcase a 5G campus network, cyber security for robots and a fleet management system at its booth (B5142). Telefónica Deutschland / O2 is presenting applications from a total of four industry sectors at the world's leading congress for international transport systems, the ITS World Congress in Hamburg. Among other things, Telefónica Deutschland / O2 and partners such as Continental, T-Systems, Deutsche Telekom and MobiledgeX will use a traffic collision warning app to demonstrate the technical interaction of two otherwise separate communication networks in real time.

"Telefónica Deutschland / O2 offers much more than networking and connectivity. We see ourselves as a solution partner for our customers. Our mobility will be sustainable and connected in the future. That is why we are also participating in the ITS trade fair in Hamburg, World Congress for Intelligent Transport Systems: today, transport, logistics and IT belong closely together, both in the public sector and for internal company processes. With digitization and networking, mobility can be organized better, more efficiently and more simply. We stand for modern telecommunications for the mobility of today and tomorrow," says Karsten Pradel, Director B2B at Telefónica Deutschland / O2.
EDGE computing: cloud-based telecommunications networks become one
Telefónica / O2 and Deutsche Telekom link their networks to increase road safety, among other things
The two German network operators Telefónica Deutschland / O2 and Deutsche Telekom have become the world's first providers to successfully link their cloud-based telecommunications networks. Coupling the networks fundamentally plays a crucial role in the success of applications in which users are connected to their smartphones or IoT devices via different network operators and yet interact with each other in real time. One example is collision warning for road users who are on different networks with their vehicles as well as smartphones. In this mobile edge computing test with the networks of Telefónica Deutschland / O2 and Deutsche Telekom, the automotive supplier Continental was able to implement its collision warning service for road users and operate it with a stable and fixed latency at all times. An important element here is the edge cloud system platform from MobiledgeX, which provides access to the network resources of the two providers. This successful networking represents the world's first demonstration of real-time communication of edge cloud resources from two network operators, which Telefónica Deutschland / O2 will present to the trade audience in Hamburg from October 11 to 15.
Telefónica Deutschland / O2 experts plan 5G campus networks
Telefónica Deutschland / O2, together with Ericsson, will also demonstrate a fully private 5G campus network as it can be implemented in a customer's properties. Such a system includes a core network, full user management and a radio network that is completely isolated from the public mobile network. Many customers opt for such a setup in the pilot phase until the final architecture of a network is decided. Telefónica Deutschland's strength here lies in its flexibility in terms of network architecture, operating model and use cases within a campus network. For example, the company offers its customers access to individual operating models, tailored to their specific needs. As an example, an augmented reality (AR) showcase will be shown together with company CGI, featuring the latest generation of AR glasses for business use, complementing the expertise of local experts in many industry sectors from manufacturing (e.g. automotive) to healthcare. In Hamburg, Dataport, the IT service provider for public administration, is setting up a 5G lab together with Telefónica Deutschland. Here, special 5G use cases for Hamburg's economy and administration will be tested. This lab will enable all users to further develop their digitization processes and follow the latest developments in 5G and its applications for public and private networks in a secure environment.
Cyber security for industrial robots
Telefónica Deutschland, Telefónica Tech and Alias Robotics demonstrate their expertise in the field of cyber security
Today's robots no longer connect via wired environments, but mobile via radio standards such as those offered by campus networks. Telefónica delivers 5G Campus solutions for this purpose that meet the highest security standards. Telefónica's ambition, however, is to cover cyber security beyond connectivity. Within secure 5G networks, additional layers of connectivity exist on the application side between different robots and systems, for example for maintenance and configuration, which can be risky, independent of 5G. It is therefore important to eliminate any risks by closing all possible gaps. Telefónica Deutschland / O2's long experience in IoT connectivity and development enables it to look at cybersecurity from this specific angle. At booth B5142, Telefónica Deutschland, Telefónica Tech and Alias Robotics will showcase their expertise in this important field.
Active fleet management
Intelligent telematics systems reduce emissions and improve productivity
Geotab is Telefónica Deutschland's global partner for intelligent telematics and connected car services. The company processes billions of data points every day and uses data analytics and machine learning to help customers improve productivity. For example, targeted analysis of existing data can help operate large vehicle fleets economically by optimizing fuel use, increasing driver safety, and complying with regulatory requirements. In addition, Geotab's comprehensive insights enable companies and municipalities to focus their efforts on the sustainability of their trade. For example, with the help of data-driven analytics, municipalities are able to address traffic problems that frequently occur in a city, such as congestion, dangerous intersections and poor road conditions. Eliminating or optimizing these problems ultimately leads to a significant reduction in a municipality's overall CO2 emissions. At booth B5142, Telefónica and Geotab will showcase smart fleet management solutions, including the new EVSA tool, which supports the transition to electric mobility and the introduction of e-vehicles in company fleets.
