Telekom Malaysia Bhd. has appointed Shazril Imri Mokhtar as its new managing director and group chief executive, effective Aug. 1.

Shazril Imri is to replace Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin, who resigned on Wednesday. The telecommunication company's chairman, Mohd Bakke Salleh, said Noor Kamarul leaves Telekom Malaysia in a better position despite the current unprecedented challenges amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Noor Kamarul was appointed to the post on June 13, 2019.

Mohd Bakke said in a stock-exchange filing late Wednesday that Shazril Imri, who was Telekom Malaysia's former chief operation officer and acting group CEO, will navigate the company through the current challenges and put it on better footing.
