Telia Lietuva and Lietuvos Geležinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) have signed a three-year equipment rental agreement worth EUR 1.4 million according to which Telia Lietuva will modernise up to 1,000 portable computers with accessories and up to 500 external computer displays. The price of the agreement includes not only the cost of the equipment itself but also its insurance coverage, maintenance, recovery and other additional services.

'The most efficient companies increasingly choose the office equipment rental approach which helps them save considerable amount of costs and time spent on the acquisition and maintenance of IT. Equipment rental gives more flexibility, enables planning of cyclical replacement of equipment and forecasting of costs since you do not need to pay a lump sum. All payments are spread over the rental period, instead. In addition, as the company uses the latest technology, higher degree of security and stability will be ensured,' Daniel Karpovič, Head of B2B at Telia Lietuva, said.

Analysts of the industry note that IT equipment rental or the so-called Device as a Service (DaaS) enables customers enjoy the most advanced technology, the latest solutions and modern equipment. This also has a positive economic effect - clients avoid a big lump sum investment in 'iron ore' and can use their money for some other important projects, instead. Besides, they pay only for the equipment they use.

Telia experts estimate that having chosen the equipment rental approach, Lietuvos Geležinkeliai (LG) will save up to EUR 300,000.

As OIegas Matiušovas, Head of IT Centre at Lietuvos Geležinkeliai, put it, Lietuvos Geležinkeliai wants to keep pace with digital technology, the development of which is skyrocketing. The equipment rental approach provided for in the IT strategy of the company is a good decision, especially, when considerable changes take place.

'We want to make sure that every staff member of the LG Group has a modern workplace with modern tools. Equipment must serve a man, not vice versa. The equipment rental approach guarantees that we use the latest technology and pay the best price for it. If our needs change, we will dynamically adapt all available technology accordingly,' manager of the IT Centre of the biggest railway group in the Baltics, said.

Mr Matiušovas added that one of the key factors in making the decision to choose the equipment rental approach was insurance which covers all equipment. In case of an inoperative device, a substitute device will be provided. In addition, after the end of the life cycle of a device or any other tool used for the cycle, the service provider will take care of its recovery or disposal.

'We have both the beginning and the end of the equipment life-cycle in mind. First, we will be able to provide new employees with the technological environment of a workplace twice as fast as now. And when the equipment degrades, we will know that proper care will be taken of it,' O. Matiušovas, Head of IT Centre at Lietuvos Geležinkeliai, added.

Telia Lietuva offered the best price for lightweight, durable and powerful 14-inch Dell Latitude 5400 laptops with accessories (headphones, mouse, keyboard, external docking station, and bag) and Dell displays in the equipment rental tendering procedure. During the period of the agreement, Lietuvos Geležinkeliai will make monthly payments for the rent of equipment. The amount of the payment will depend on the quantity of rented office equipment.

All Dell equipment leased to Lietuvos Geležinkeliai supports Windows Autopilot technology and meets all requirements of the company; for this reason, the staff of LG will be able to use the computers delivered by Telia Lietuva immediately after turning them on.
