TNB CONTINUES TO SUPPORT NATION'S HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Scholarship allocation of RM35 million to 93 outstanding students for September 2021 intake
  • Contributed over RM1.2 billion to more than 18,500 students in the form of scholarships, MyBF Bursary and convertible loans since 1993

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), through Yayasan Tenaga Nasional (YTN) continues its support to the nation's human capital development by awarding scholarships to 93 academically excellent students with sound leadership qualities and are active in co-curricular activities to pursue their studies at universities locally and abroad.

They were chosen among 8,400 applicants who sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) in 2020 with 20 beneficiaries to pursue their degree in Electrical Power Engineering, Accounting/Finance, or Data Science & Analytics abroad. Another 73 students will further their studies in Electrical Power Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Business, or Accounting at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).

Throughout their studies, TNB has allocated scholarships of about RM35 million with RM1 million each for overseas courses and between RM120,000 to RM140,000 for local courses. Since its inception in 1993, TNB has contributed over RM1.2 billion in the form of MyBF Bursary (RM66 million), scholarships (RM597 million) and convertible loans (RM547 million) to more than 18,500 students.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan regarded the initiative as a manifestation of TNB's close relationship with the rakyat and said, "On behalf of the Federal Government, I am truly grateful to Tenaga Nasional Berhad for its effort to support the government to improve the quality of life of the rakyat, especially as the country is still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I understand that TNB through YTN has contributed RM426 million in the Regulatory Period 2 (RP2) from 2018 to July 2021 for scholarships, convertible loans and My Brighter Future (MyBF) Bursary," he said at the YTN Scholarship Award Ceremony which was held via hybrid method in ILSAS last Friday. Also present, TNB President/Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir. Baharin Din; YTN Director, Dato' Ir. Dr Ibrahim Hussein and TNB top management.

group, B40. Hence, the beneficiaries will have to make full use of the scholarship awarded by the utility company.

"TNB's approach to always be together with the rakyat in education is a commendable effort that is underpinned by values of mindfulness for the benefit of the country. It is also a manifestation of a meaningful relationship between the rakyat as customers of TNB, underlined by the philosophy of sharing prosperity among each other," he added.

Meanwhile, TNB President/Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir. Baharin Din said TNB is committed to helping the government to increase the development of quality human capital for the country's growth. "At TNB, we believe that through education, the potential of human capital will be polished further and in turn will contribute to improving the living standards of the people as well as giving rise to the development of the country."

He added that TNB takes pride in its social responsibility in the areas of education because "we believe education is one of the enablers that can change the lives of the community. Hence, TNB is committed to continuing to re-engineer the society through education."
