Tenaris in Romania partnered with New Horizons Foundation, a youth development nonprofit, to host a month-long summer program focused on science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM activities.

A total of 175 children from the Zalau community, where Tenaris operates a seamless mill, participated in the program. The STEM curriculum centered around astronomy - basic astronomical notions and observations of astronomical phenomena on the sun, earth, and moon - and activities that address sustainable consumption and impact to the planet.

'Our summer activities prove that school can be fun and interesting, offering learning through investigation and hands on experiments, teachings on responsible actions to care for the environment, making the learning process highly effective. The students enjoyed practical activities and parents appreciated the enthusiasm of their children, coming back home happy and curious from our program,' said Codruta Hodrea, Tenaris community relations manager in Romania.

'I am happy that my child was able to be part of this educational program supported by Tenaris. For both of us, it was a very successful program,' shared Dan Homone, parent of one of the students.

'Summer school was very fun for me. I liked that I colored and that I learned how to recycle,' said Maia Chiba, summer school student. Matei Lungu, another student participant, highlighted the experiments performed, 'I liked the experiment about the movement of the earth best.'

Some of the 12 members of the summer program's educational team are also graduates of a new educational program developed by Tenaris in Zalau, dedicated to training primary school teachers in STEM, lecture club and positive disciplines, and in applying new teaching methods through investigations.

This second edition of the summer STEM program, an investment of $50,200 USD, which registered a 30% increase in participants from the first, serves as an extension of Tenaris's Afterschool program, which has been running for seven years in the community of Zalau, Romania.
