NORTH READING, Mass. (AP) _ Teradyne Inc. (TER) on Tuesday reported third-quarter earnings of $222.7 million.

On a per-share basis, the North Reading, Massachusetts-based company said it had profit of $1.21. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $1.18 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.11 per share.

The maker of wireless products, data storage and equipment to test semiconductors posted revenue of $819.5 million in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $786 million.

For the current quarter ending in December, Teradyne expects its per-share earnings to range from 90 cents to $1.06.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $680 million to $740 million for the fiscal fourth quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $786 million.

Teradyne shares have climbed 29% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $87.94, a climb of 46% in the last 12 months.
