A Call for Talent for young graduates and a Call for Solutions for innovative businesses

Milan, 28 September 2021 - Today saw the live-stream launch on https://nextenergy.cariplofactory.it

and on Facebook(https://www.facebook.com/nextenergyprogram/) and LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/terna/) of the fifth edition of Next Energy, the initiative promoted by Terna, the Cariplo Foundation and Cariplo Factory to identify upcoming talent and proposals from the most innovative businesses.

The goal of this edition is to increase the culture of innovation as an enabling factor of change and to consolidate the "new normal", identifying and developing new solutions that capitalize on the acceleration of digitalisation in the sphere of work, promoting the value of the individual.

Next Energy 5 has two separate calls: the first is the "Call for Talent", aimed at young graduates in engineering, statistics and economics, for internships with Terna structures and/or work groups, involved in the management of innovative projects. The second is the "Call for Solutions", reserved for start-ups,SMEs and innovative companies that can offer solutions to optimise new office working methods, for physical and virtual environments, suitably equipped with advanced technology also enabling collaboration of workers with specific difficulties. For the businesses selected, the "Call for Solutions" offers the opportunity of a 12-weekproof-of-concept process, with guidance and support from Cariplo Factory, aimed at demonstrating the validity and feasibility of proposals.

In the first four editions, the Next Energy programme achieved record results, establishing itself as a benchmark in the world of Italian innovation.

The first four "Calls for Talent" received over 500 CVs, selecting 45 interns, of whom 34 were given permanent contracts, with another 23 hires from the database of CVs generated by Next Energy over the years.

More than 55 new hires under the age of 30 is of crucial importance in terms of skills and generational turnover for Terna, the operator of the Italian national electricity grid, which in the 2021-2025 Business Plan, "Driving Energy", set out investment of approximately € 900 million of the total € 8.9 billion in digitalisation and innovation. This represents a concrete contribution to the energy transition in the country for an increasingly sustainable and decarbonised system.

With the help of Cariplo Factory, the innovation hub created by the Cariplo Foundation in 2016, Terna has been able to launch and consolidate an Open Innovation pathway: on the basis of the calls reserved for start-ups ("Call for Ideas" and "Call for Growth"), over the first four editions of Next Energy, is has been possible to assess over 150 projects from young start-ups and, with the support of the Cariplo Factory incubators, to complete 40 incubation processes generating an equivalent number of interactions with Terna. Finally, the "Call for Growth", introduced from the second edition of Next Energy and reserved for more mature businesses, enabled evaluation of more than 200 innovative enterprises already in the market, leading to 21 interactions with Terna. These calls have led to various partnerships with Terna.

Applications for the Next Energy 5 calls can be submitted on the official website https://nextenergy.cariplofactory.it, until 25 November 2021 for the "Call for Talents", and until 13 December 2021 for the "Call for Solutions".
